Tolt River flood-risk reduction strategy meeting set for Dec. 12 at Tolt Middle School

The King County Flood Control District invites residentsFlood Control Zone District Logo to a community discussion about the Tolt River, 6:30 to 8:45 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12 in the Tolt Middle School Commons, 3740 Tolt Ave., Carnation.

The meeting will include a presentation about the current flood and erosion conditions along the Tolt River as well as proposed solutions to reduce risks from flooding, improve safety and restore habitat.

Flood District Supervisor Kathy Lambert and King County staff will be on-hand to answer questions and listen to feedback on possible solutions.

“It has been a little over a year since we met with the community on the Tolt River Corridor Plan,” Supervisor Lambert said. “In that time, we integrated the community’s suggestions and have developed a potential Capital Investment Strategy to minimize flood risks along the Tolt River. I look forward to getting early input from those most impacted to help ensure the plan will accomplish citizens’ flood control goals most effectively.”

The Flood District has been working on a draft Tolt River Corridor Capital Investment Strategy. The draft strategy includes specific recommendations to reduce flood risks and improve habitat over the coming decades, such as road and bridge alterations, levee setbacks, and acquiring floodplain property from willing sellers. The Flood District is seeking public input on the proposed solutions and project sequencing.
