Snoqualmie pedestrian crossing work underway

Union strike did not signifcantly slow project build

A pedestrian flashing beacon – commonly known as a HAWK signal – is under construction at the intersection of Snoqualmie Parkway at Fisher Avenue Southeast.

The beacon is being constructed to increase safety for pedestrians crossing Snoqualmie Parkway from both sides of Fisher Avenue Southeast.

The recent regional strike by International Union of Operating Engineers (Local 302) crane operators and members created an initial delay in foundation work, but the overall construction schedule has not been impacted. The strike has ended and work now is underway. There was no overall, long-term delay to the project caused by the strike because of the long lead time needed for obtaining signal poles. Signal poles are scheduled to arrive in January 2019.

This week, grading and forming for concrete began. Concrete was expected to be poured for all ramps and sidewalk sections and curb ramps. Equipment and cones were scheduled to be removed by Thursday.

With the concrete poured and equipment and cones removed, construction will be on hiatus until the signal poles arrive in January 2019. Once the poles arrive, there may be intermittent delays for approximately two weeks during installation and striping. The entire project is expected to be completed by the end of January 2019.
