North Bend sewer project complete with millions to spare

North Bend’s extension of sewer lines to the Truck Town area is done after a year and a half, with money to spare.

There is still some patching and roadway adjustment work to be done by the contractor, Northwest Cascade, but the final payment of $667,000 was approved by the North Bend City Council April 12. Public Works Director Ron Garrow said the payment included the fifth and final change order for the project, which began in October, 2009.

Over the course of the project, Garrow said the city was able to negotiate several cost reductions with Northwest Cascade, totaling nearly $800,000. Cost overruns, including change orders amounted to 1.4 percent of the contract price, well within the city’s planned 5 percent.

Garrow’s best news, though, was “The total construction costs came in at slightly over $15 million.” The engineer’s estimate for the project was over $21 million.
