The city of North Bend celebrated its 2016 Arbor Day with a community planting Oct. 8 at Tollgate Farm Park, with the help of Cub Scout Pack 466, Girl Scout Troop 40944, Girl Scout Troop 44455, and other community volunteers.

The group braved a torrential rainstorm to plant nine Sitka Spruce and nine Shore Pine trees along the loop trail within the park.

This event marked North Bend’s sixth year as a Tree City USA, a designation awarded by the Department of Natural Resources and the Arbor Day Foundation for the city’s commitment to providing and caring for public trees.
