The King County Flood Warning Center opened briefly Wednesday to monitor rising flows on the Snoqualmie River from heavy rainfall in the area.

According to the National Weather Service, minor flooding is possible on the Snoqualmie near Carnation, as well as on the Puyallup, near Orting.While the current weather pattern is not one that is usually associated with river flooding, the cumulative effect of rain from successive storms could bring the river to just above flood stage.

Only minor flooding can be expected, including the potential for water over Neal Road and possibly a handful of other roads in the Snoqualmie Valley.

According to Floodzilla, the Snoqualmie River crested at 18,400 cubic feet per second, just below flood stage, at 2 a.m. Thursday. It is predicted to crest again at 14,000 cfs at 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30.

In Carnation, the flood reached 52.8 feet, or about a foot below flood stage, at 8 a.m. Thursday. The flood is expected to crest at 53 feet at 10 a.m. today.

Upriver, flood is expected to crest at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 30, at the forks of the Snoqualmie at 12,367 cubic feet per second.
