Initiatives 1631 and 1634 qualify for the 2018 general election

Secretary of State certified the intiatives for the November election.

Secretary of State Kim Wyman has certified Initiative 1631 and 1634 as qualifying for the November General Election.

Using statistical sampling of the more than 340,000 signatures submitted with each petition, the Office of Secretary of State has verified that the two initiatives each met the legal requirement of 259,622 valid qualifying signatures to go before voters.

Initiative 1634, “Taxation of Groceries,” which was submitted with 381,479 signatures, was certified Aug. 1 after elections officials examined 11,483 randomly-selected signatures. Initiative 1631, “Clean Air, Clean Energy,” submitted with 349,063 signatures, was certified today after examination of 10,507 randomly-selected signatures.

The office found that more than enough of the sampled signatures were valid to calculate that the initiative would meet constitutional requirements to make the November ballot.
