Duvall’s Main Street, S.R. 203, now open; culvert project finishes two days early

Contractors with Interwest Construction have completed a culvert project on S.R. 203 in Duvall a full two days ahead of schedule, resulting in an early re-opening of the road through Duvall.

City staff announced Monday afternoon that the highway between 143rd and 145th in Duvall would re-open by the evening commute, once the final layer of asphalt has cooled down to allow traffic. The road opened just before 6 p.m.

The road was closed since July 17, for a culvert replacement and intersection work that will be a key feature of the city’s new and improved Main Street.

The Thayer Creek culvert replacement is just one part of an $8 million improvement project along Duvall’s Main Street that began construction in September of 2016. Once completed; sidewalks, bike lanes and lighting will connect all the businesses that have developed along the corridor throughout the years. Thayer Creek will have an important role in the new Main Street; with a restored channel, creek bank and pocket park; it promises to become a focal point and hub for visitors to sit and enjoy the scenery and beauty of the Snoqualmie Valley.

Work will continue on the $8 million improvement project through the heart of Duvall as the Main Street project enters its final phases. The new Main Street is expected to be complete by the end of October.

Regular updates regarding the progress of this project will be posted to the city of Duvall’s Facebook and Twitter pages as well as a Thayer Creek page on the city’s website.
