Carnation parks receive $50,000 grant from King County Youth Sports Facilities Grants

Carnation officials received a $50,000 grant to city parks Dec. 6, when King County Councilwoman Kathy Lambert attended a meeting of the city council.

Lambert presented the city council with the award, from the King County budget, to be used specifically for parks in the city. The funding is from a one-time bonding of revenue from car rental taxes that originally went to the building of King County’s sports stadiums. Part of that revenue was dedicated to youth sports facilities grants in 2016.

City Administrator Phil Messina said the council would start talking about how to use the funds in the first part of 2017.

”I’m very pleased that these funds can go toward youth sports in Carnation”, said Councilmember Lambert. “I know that the money will be used wisely for the benefit of the community.”

Carnation has several city parks, as well as the King County Tolt-MacDonald Park in the city. They include Nick Loutsis Park, 32401 E. Entwistle St.; Valley Memorial Park, with a skatebowl, 31999 Blanche St.; and Fred Hockert Park, 4602 Stossel Ave., also known as the Yellow Park.
