Congressman Reichert recovering from hematoma procedure at D.C. hospital
March 25, 2010 · 2:35 PM
Congressman Dave Reichert was admitted to George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C., Wednesday after feeling ill, according to his congressional office.
Reichert of Auburn represents the Eighth Congressional District in southeast King County.
Following an evaluation, doctors performed a procedure to address a chronic subdural hematoma, or blood buildup, that was likely the result of a minor head injury, according to a statement. The procedure was successful, and he is expected to make a full and complete recovery.
Reichert is resting comfortably and will be discharged in a few days, but doctors will not allow him to leave for any votes.
Reichert’s office has contacted House leadership to advise leaders he is unable to vote and that he will submit for the record a reiteration of his no vote on the health-care bill. The House was to vote again today (Thursday) on a revised health-care bill.
Upon discharge from the hospital, Reichert will return home for the district work period and will resume his schedule in consultation with his doctors.
