North Bend’s Cheryl Proffitt-Schmidt, center, was named Washington’s Municipal Clerk of the Year by the state’s municipal clerk association. Proffitt-Schmidt had been nominated by Mayor Ken Hearing, right, and city administrator Duncan Wilson, left, in part for her efforts to organize and reclassify thousands of documents stretching back to North Bend’s founding in 1909. Beyond city clerk, she fills many roles, including handling city communications and supporting administrative projects. “Her efforts cut across just about every aspect of managing a city,” Wilson said.
