NORTH BEND - An 11-year-old boy was rescued off the Mount Si Trail in North Bend last Wednesday, May 18, after injuring his ankle.
The boy was on a field trip with his private school when the incident occurred around 3:06 p.m. Two of the students on the field trip hiked down the trail and called for help while school counselors stayed to aid the boy.
Firefighters from Eastside Fire and Rescue carried blankets, water and a stretcher up the trail for three miles in wet conditions to reach the boy. The firefighters evaluated him for further injuries and carried him to safety.
King County Search and Rescue Explorers and Seattle Mountain Rescue were also dispatched to the scene.
The boy was met by a parent at the bottom of the trail. No other injuries were reported.
