Snoqualmie Parkway will expand to 4 lanes

In early June, Snoqualmie Ridge II Development, LLC began work on the Snoqualmie Parkway Widening Capital Improvement Project to expand the two-lane portion of the parkway from Southeast 96th to Interstate 90 to four lanes.

The privately funded project should be completed by October, said Kirk Holmes, Snoqualmie's director of public works. The construction is expected to take place from about 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.

The widening of the parkway has been planned since the inception of Snoqualmie Ridge in the mid-1990s, Holmes said.

In 2004, the city and Quadrant Corp. executed a development agreement governing the development of Snoqualmie Ridge II, now owned by Snoqualmie Ridge II Development, LLC. The conditions of approval of Snoqualmie Ridge II required Snoqualmie Ridge II Development, LLC to widen the Snoqualmie Parkway from two to four lanes, according to City Council documents.

Snoqualmie Ridge II Development, LLC agreed to the widening with the request to defer the expansion until the traffic counts hit a level that qualified the need, Holmes said.

The city of Snoqualmie will take over ownership of the stretch of roadway once the project is complete.

At the same time, the Washington State Department of Transportation is doing its own project in the same area; adding a second left-turn lane off I-90's Exit 25. This project is also expected to be completed by October, Holmes said.
