Tribe needs toys

The Snoqualmie Tribe's food bank needs help. Every Christmas, the food bank provides toys to families with children who don't have enough money for gifts. This year, the Tribe inadvertantly was left off the Boeing Corporation's list of charities. By the time the Tribe discovered the error, it was too late, said Mary Anne Hinzman, vice chair of the tribal council and coordinator of the Tribe's food bank.

"We've got all these people, I just don't know what to do," Hinzman said.

She is contacting area businesses, schools and organizations for help and hopes somebody will step up to provide the toys the food bank needs to make Christmas a little more happy for the 150 families, nearly 500 children, who would receive gifts from the food bank if there were any to give, Hinzman said.

Hinzman said the food bank finally heard back from Toys for Tots, the other major sponsor of the tribe's holiday gift giving, on Dec. 8, so there may be some toys.

However, she said the food bank desperately hopes area residents will step forward with toy contributions. Toys for children of all ages, toddlers to teens are needed, she said. Donations of food, especially canned goods are always welcome.

"There's a very big need," Hinzman said. The food bank provides food and other needed items to all area residents year round.

Donations may be brought to the tribe's food bank in Carnation, 4480 Tolt Ave., or the tribal offices in Snoqualmie, 8130 Railroad Ave. (entrance is on Falls Avenue).
