Family funnies

As a child, Don Friesen memorized Bill Cosby albums from the library and performed the routines for anybody he could corral, usually his little sister. Today, Friesen is a professional comedian and his sister - Connie Shroades of North Bend - is proud to bring him to North Bend on Sunday, March 25, to help raise money for Encompass.

"We had a lot of goofy fun things that we did [as children]," Shroades said. "When you grow up with that, you think everybody has a goofy brother."

With an act that has been described as smart, savvy and highly caffeinated, Friesen is the only ever two-time winner of the San Francisco International Comedy Competition. He has made several television appearances and has built quite a following in cities that he performs in.

"We pack the place out when Don is in town," said Ron Reid, manager of the Seattle Comedy Underground. "He's got the kind of act that people come back to again and again and bring their friends with them. It's a very loyal following."
