For Matt Queen, Cherene Khouri and her mother, Michele Khouri, yoga is their way of life.

Next month, they will open the North Bend Yoga Shala on the corner of Ballarat Avenue and Fourth Street. A shala means a school in the Sanskrit language.

"We all had a passion for yoga before yoga was a 'thing;' it is our personal path," Cherene said.

The North Bend Yoga Shala teaches Iyengar Yoga, a form of Hatha Yoga created by B.K.S. Iyengar that is known for its use of props - such as straps, cushions and blocks - to help students master more difficult poses, known as asanas. Through the use of asanas, practicioners aim to unite body, mind and spirit for health and well-being.
