County plan could stall new hospital

A pilot program by King County, designed to protect rural land from development, could affect Snoqualmie Valley Hospital's plans for a new campus.

Officials with the King County Department of Development and Environmental Services (DDES) described the program at a public hearing held Thursday, Jan. 31, at Cascade View Elementary School. The object of the hearing was to listen to residents' thoughts on amendments to the King County Comprehensive Plan, which include projects at Preston and Lake Desire as well as changes at Interstate 90 and Snoqualmie Parkway, where King County Hospital District No. 4 seeks to bring a 70-acre campus into the City of Snoqualmie's Urban Growth Area.

However, much of the meeting was a discussion by hospital opponents and proponents on the merits of the hospital itself, and whether a new campus is needed.
