Weeklies publisher to seek Renton council spot
KING COUNTY - Denis Law, publisher and vice president of the King County Journal Newspapers' weekly papers will resign this month to pursue other interests, owner Peter Horvitz announced recently.
Law announced that he will run for Renton City Council. He lives in the Kennydale neighborhood and plans to run for the position held by King Parker.
Parker's term expires at the end of this year and he has announced his candidacy for mayor, along with fellow council members Randy Corman and Kathy Keolker-Wheeler.
John Perry, executive vice president of the King County Journal Newspapers and former publisher of the South County Journal, will become publisher of the weekly paper division. He will oversee the publication of the Kent, Auburn, Renton and Redmond Reporter newspapers as well as the Snoqualmie Valley Record.
Perry will also continue managing printing and production operations for the Journal Newspapers and serve on the King County Journal editorial board.
Law started the Renton Reporter newspaper in 1995 and later founded the Kent and Auburn weeklies. Horvitz purchased the Reporter papers from Law. In January, Horvitz combined the former South County Journal and Eastside Journal into the King County Journal.
