Emsky ready to go the distance

FALL CITY - Some would say no one in their right mind would swim more than 2 miles, bike well over 100 miles and run a marathon, all in the same day.

Jenny Emsky has done it all and will be doing it against the best when she competes in the Ironman World Triathlon Championship in October.

"It's actually fun," said Emsky.

The Ironman triathlon was born out of discussion one Navy commander had with his colleagues about who was more fit: bikers, swimmers or runners. In 1979, the commander decided to settle the argument by combining all three activities into one competition, which involves a beginning 2.4-mile swim that segues right into a 112-mile bike ride and is finished off by a 26.2-mile run.
