SNOQUALMIE PASS -Relief is in sight for residents here without a post office.

Bob's Summit Chevron & Deli at 521 State Route 906 in Snoqualmie Pass began serving as a temporary post office Aug. 31, the U.S. Postal Service announced last week.

The state-owned building that housed the pass post office closed last Wednesday for a monthlong remodeling. The U.S. Postal Service contracts with the Time Wise Mini Mart to handle mail for the communities near the pass, numbering about 300 year-round residents.

"We're pleased to be able to provide this interim location for customers to obtain their mail locally," said Snoqualmie Postmaster Burnell Weinkauf.

Mail may be picked up at the new location from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., Sunday through Thursday, and 6 a.m. to midnight, Friday and Saturday.

Weinkauf said the Postal Service will continue to seek a permanent location to provide full customer services to residents of Snoqualmie Pass while the temporary location is operational.

Prior to finding the temporary location, postal officials told Snoqualmie Pass residents they would have to drive to North Bend to pick up their mail.
