SR 202 to be repaved in '07
SNOQUALMIE VALLEY - One of the main thoroughfares of the Upper Snoqualmie Valley will be getting a facelift in two years.
A portion of State Route 202 (SR 202) that runs from Fall City to North Bend will be repaved in 2007, according to Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) officials.
SR 202 runs east out of Redmond and goes through Fall City and Snoqualmie on its way to North Bend. The work will start at milepost 21.90 (near the intersection of SR 202 and State Route 203 outside Fall City) and go east to milepost 30.60 in North Bend. Gary Kirk, assistant project engineer for WSDOT, said the first four miles of work out of Fall City will consist of laying down a nearly 2-inch layer of new pavement on the road. The remaining stretch of road will be ground up and then repaved.
Kirk said the project will also upgrade the existing guardrail, install sections of new guardrail and place rumble strips along the centerline of the road. Other minor safety and preservation work will include updating signs, replacing striping and pavement markings and replacing expansion joints on the bridge that goes over the South Fork of the Snoqualmie River near North Bend.
"It's not really that complicated," Kirk said. "It's more of a preservation project."
The $2-million project will go to bid in December 2006 with work expected to start and finish in 2007. Kirk said the work will cause traffic delays, but that the WSDOT would be giving the public as much forewarning of problems as it can.
Kirk said WSDOT is in the process of letting the public and other agencies know about the project so it can get input on any other problems that can be taken care while there are work crews on the road. Interested parties can contact WSDOT to tell them about accident locations, safety hazards or environmental concerns that the state may be able to address.
