SNOQUALMIE - The Snoqualmie Valley Record was recognized with three Better Newspaper Contest Awards at the 118th convention of the Washington Newspaper Association last week in Wenatchee.

Current editor Ben Cape and former editor Travis Peterson won second place in the cops and courts story contest for their article on the Snoqualmie City Council last fall following a review of the city's police department. It was revealed that some officers had been accruing hundreds of hours of vacation time that the city would have to cash out upon those officers' retirement.

Valley Record photographer Aaron Gustafson won first place in the black- and-white photography photo essay category for his coverage of the Two Rivers School graduation last June. He won second place in the black-and-white photography portrait group for a photo he took of Snoqualmie Councilman Charles Peterson last fall.
