October 2, 2008 · Updated 10:34 AM
Qualifications for free surgery include proof of state or federal public assistance; only cash is accepted for fee-based surgeries. There is a limit of one dog per household and large breeds are discouraged (puppies are OK, as are pregnant and in-heat pets). Microchips are also offered for $15.
Those bringing in animals are asked to bring along two towels per animal; dogs must be at least 4 months of age and kittens must weigh at least three pounds. Note that no food or water should be given after 10 p.m. the night before, except for 4-month-old puppies and kittens that should be fed and watered up to half the usual amount the morning of the surgery. Dogs must be on a leash or in a carrier; cats must be confined in a carrier or pillow case, with one cat per unit.
