City surveys residents on community center options

Results from the 2007 Snoqualmie Citizen Survey could give the Snoqualmie City Council some new direction on when and how to return a community center bond to voters.
On March 15, the city mailed out 2,678 surveys in utility bills with a stamped envelope to encourage recipients to return them. By the March 26 due date, about 650 had been returned. As of April 12, the city received 803 returns. The survey results are being compiled by a consultant and the final results go before the council April 23.
The survey sought the reasons why the bond failed, asking whether it was too expensive or whether voters had other priorities for their tax dollars, such as the school bond.
A community center bond has twice been rejected by Snoqualmie voters, in 2002 and 2006. The bond, which requires a 60 percent supermajority to pass, received 40 percent approval in 2002 and 52 percent approval in 2006.
