Construction begins on roundabouts
October 2, 2008 · Updated 9:42 AM
Work began this month on construction of a roundabout in Fall City at the junction of state routes 202 and 203.
Tri-State Construct-ion Inc. crews began site preparation and demolition of buildings April 9. Work to re-align the bridge barrier followed. The project is expected to be completed by fall 2007 at a cost of $3.9 million. Most of the money comes from the 2003 state gas tax.
Crews will build
a one-lane modern roundabout to en-hance safety and improve traffic flow. The intersection was the location of many collisions; between 1996 and 2001, 39 collissions occurred at the intersection.
Currently, the intersection has a stop sign on state Route 203 as it intersects with state Route 202 at a curve. The new roundabout will move traffic from several directions in and out of a one-way oval-shaped intersection. Drivers will yield rather than stop at signs or wait for a traffic light.
