Valley family offers hope to Ugandan village
John and Kimberly Calhoun of Snoqualmie are making big plans to help a rural village in Africa.
Now, they're asking the Valley to back them up.
The Calhouns, volunteers with In the Field Ministries, will dig a new well for the village of Rwenjiri, Uganda, as well as build a house for the pastor and village leader, during an upcoming visit this July.
In the Field Ministries is a nonprofit organization based in North Bend that is dedicated to using practical solutions for community improvements in remote areas.
A live auction and dinner is planned for 6 p.m. Friday, May 11, at Cascade Covenant Church. Sam Lawrence Luyenda, the director of operations in East Africa for the ministry group and a resident of Kampala, Uganda, will speak about the needs in Uganda and give an update on the well effort that Valley residents have helped support.
