Second bond attempt falls short
October 2, 2008 · Updated 9:41 AM
The Snoqualmie Valley School District's second attempt at a new construction bond stalled at the polls, less than two percentage points short of the required "supermajority."
As of Monday, May 21, results from last Tuesday's special election showed the bond at 58.3 percent approval, with 3,987 "Yes" votes and 2,851 "No" votes. Latest counts showed 6,839 votes cast, or about 36 percent of the district's registered voters.
The second attempt showed a slight gain over the bond's first try in February, but it was still falling short as of press time.
With the bond failing, the district won't get another attempt at the ballots until next February at the earliest.
"You only get two chances," boardmember Rick Krona said. "All construction will be pushed back one year. There's no way we could stay on the same construction schedules."
While some voters expressed sticker shock at the $209 million bond amount, Krona defended the cost.
