Students at Chief Kanim Middle School challenged themselves to perform one of the world's most beloved musicals.

The teachers that guided them in their production of "The Sound of Music" say parents will be well pleased with the results.

"The Sound of Music" will be presented at CKMS May 31 and June 1, 2, 8 and 9. Showtimes are 7 p.m.; doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $8.

Eighty Chief Kanim students in grades six through eight have been practicing since early March on the musical, which involves the story of the singing Von Trapp family of Austria and their escape from the Third Reich.

Chief Kanim holds a student production every spring and many of the young performers have had past roles at CKMS, and at younger ages may have taken part in shows at Fall City Elementary.
