Making strides against cystic Fibrosis in the Valley
The second annual Great Strides walk, returning this month to the Valley, is a chance to fight a rare, debilitating disease and get some great exercise in the bargain.
The Snoqualmie Valley Great Strides takes place Saturday, Sept. 29, at Centennial Fields, 39903 S.E. Park St, Snoqualmie. Registration is 10 a.m. and the walk begins at 11 a.m.
At Great Strides, participants enjoy a scenic autumn stroll while raising funds to research a cure for cystic fibrosis. The event is a benefit for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, which works to cure and control the disease.
Last year's first Great Strides walk in Snoqualmie Valley hoped to raise $15,000, but instead gathered more than $35,000. This year, the goal is raise at least that amount to fight cystic fibrosis.
The walk route includes the Centennial pathway, Snoqualmie Valley Trail, Meadowbrook Way and Park Street.
All are invited to take part. So far, 12 teams have formed. To help, people can sign up to be a walker, raising money from friends, relatives, co-workers and neighbors, or donate to the cause. The event includes food, entertainment and activities for families and the comunity.
