Valley farms celebrate National Alpaca Farm Day

Snoqualmie Valley alpaca breeders are taking part in a celebration all their own: National Alpaca Farm Day.
Washington Gov. Christine Gregoire has declared Saturday, Sept. 29, as "Alpaca Farm Day" in recognition of the important contributions alpacas and alpaca farming make to the Washington state economy and way of life.
Valley farms, including Daisy Hill Alpaca Farm in Snoqualmie, Alpacas of Legacy Ranch and Zargus, both in Fall City, Big Rock Candy Mountain farm at Lake Alice, Jo's Fleece Fields in Carnation, Heart of Dreams Alpacas in Duvall and Silverado Ranch, also in Duvall, are taking part in the celebration. That weekend, alpaca breeders invite the public to come to their farms or ranches to meet their alpacas and learn more about these inquisitive and unique animals.
Visitors to the farms will get to visit and handle the animals, watch demonstrations, purchase raffle tickets, play games and more. Admission is free.
Alpacas, cousins to the llama, are native to the Andean Mountain range of South America, particularly Peru, Bolivia and Chile.
