Two hikers die near Snoqualmie Pass
October 2, 2008 · Updated 9:24 AM
Two people are dead from an avalanche and the third person in their hiking party suffered a broken leg while hiking near Snow Lake in the Cascade Mountains, north of Alpental.
A second group of four hikers was rescued on the Denny Creek Trail, near Exit 42 on Interstate 90, King County Sheriff's Office Spokesman John Urquhart said.
At Snow Lake, three people, including a married couple, a 33-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man, and a 38-year-old friend went hiking on the evening of Friday, Nov. 30. When they didn't return as planned Sunday, the father of one of them went to Alpental on Monday and found their vehicle in the parking lot. He called the King County Sheriff's Office at 4:20 p.m. A search-and-rescue operation began Monday afternoon.
