Pastor challenged at high school MLK assembly

Invited to speak at school for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a Redmond pastor was interrupted by protests from two teachers at a Mount Si High School assembly.

Pastor Ken Hutcherson of Antioch Bible Church in Redmond was invited by a student club to speak at an assembly at Mount Si Thursday, Jan. 17.

Hutcherson has drawn controversy for objecting to suggestions that the current gay civil rights movement bears resemblance to the African-American civil rights movement in the 1960s.

At the assembly, Hutcherson spoke about the impact of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on his own life, and did not deviate from that topic, Snoqualmie Valley School District spokeswoman Carolyn Malcolm said.
