Wildfire burns off Mount Si Road, no evacuations ordered

A one-acre wildfire is burning on Mount Si, just off Mount Si Road near 444th Avenue Southeast Friday afternoon, but no homes appear to be threatened by the flames. Crews from six engine companies, including the wildland North County Handline Team of Eastside Fire and Rescue and Duvall companies have responded to the fire.

The fire is spreading and moving uphill, away from the road, according to a report from Eastside Fire & Rescue Deputy Fire Chief Bud Backer. However, only a vacant home is nearby, Backer said, and no evacuations have been ordered.

Only a small portion of the fire is accessible from a road, so engine companies were staging on 444th, which was blocked to other traffic early Friday afternoon.

The Department of Natural Resources is also on scene and a DNR helicopter is responding from Ellensburg.
