City adopts downtown vision

The North Bend City Council unanimously voted to adopt the Downtown Master Plan, a vision to transform and revitalize the downtown core and draw shoppers into the area.

The approval came after a series of open houses where the public was encouraged to give feedback. Any concerns residents may have about specifics of the plan will be addressed during the design phase. Mayor Ken Hearing said the city will slowly implement the plan in coming months.

“We’re hoping to take the first step this year, and that’s shielding garbage enclosures on McClellan Avenue,” he said. “The second step is to buy the property between North Bend Way and Second that would be the Downing Street extension; we’re working towards that right now.”

Hearing said he hoped the Council would put some of the money from expected new growth toward implementing the plan.
