North Bend ready to break ground on new fire station Wednesday

July 19, 2012 · 6:42 PM

The public is invited to join city officials and staff and representatives of Fire District 38 and Eastside Fire & Rescue for the ground breaking for the new Fire Station, 500 Maloney Grove Ave. SE, at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 25.

The station will be built on a city-owned parcel adjacent to the city’s Public Works shop. The station is funded by bonds voters approved in February, 2011. Kirtley-Cole Associates, LLC won the contract for construction, with a bid of $4,084,000 plus tax.

“We are happy to be breaking ground, we owe it to our citizens to have a safe building not only for our trucks and life support vehicles, but especially the firefighters who live in the facility” said Mayor Hearing.

A new building has been discussed for years, as structural problems developed in the current station's 60-year-old building.

For more information about the fire station construction project, come to the ground-breaking, or contact Public Works Director Ron Garrow, rgarrow@northbendwa.gov or (425) 888-7650.
