The playgrounds, front stoops and sidewalks of North Bend and Snoqualmie elementary schools buzzed with activity Tuesday, Aug. 30, the first day of class for the 2011/12 year in the Snoqualmie Valley School District.

Out on the North Bend playground fourth graders Meg Morris, Megan Simpson and a group of friends excitedly shared hugs and greetings with classmates before the first bell rang. They excitedly talked about meeting old school friends and new teacher, and looked forward to being in the same class and reading new things.

At Snoqualmie Elementary, teachers showed new students the ropes and helped them navigate the school, while parents checked out the wall with posted bus routes. A full list of routes can be found on the district Web site at http://sharepoint.snoqualmie.k12.wa.us/routes/default.aspx

The Snoqualmie Valley School District started the school year budgeting for about 6,100 students. Riverview School District begins classes on Tuesday, Sept. 6.
