Classes were canceled Wednesday, Jan. 12, in the Snoqualmie Valley and Riverview School District after a winter storm dumped a wet coat of snow on local roads.

A message posted at 5 a.m. Wednesday on the Snoqualmie Valley School District website cited inclement weather and road conditions in the district. All school activities are also canceled for the day.

A snowstorm blanketed the region with several inches of snow and sleet late Tuesday. By Wednesday morning, rain falling on snow led to a thick, soggy carpet on roadways.

Drivers are warned to exercise caution.

In Snoqualmie, the storm may delay garbage collection. Residents are asked to leave their containers out until 5 p.m.
