Mount Si Lutheran Church in North Bend is celebrating 60 years of ministry with activities on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 12 and 13. All are invited to participate.

The congregation first formed in January of 1949, meeting at Fall City Methodist Church and later the Snoqualmie American Legion Hall. In November of 1952, the group dedicated the completed church building and parsonage on the current site at Eighth Street and Ogle Avenue.

The church's first pastor was Rev. Paul Gerlach. Five pastors later, Rev. Paul Hermansen now leads the congregation.

Throughout its history, the congregation has been committed to serving the Snoqualmie Valley community. To raise funds in the early years, the women of the church catered meals for local business groups. In 1963, they formed the Mount Si Sunsetters, serving a monthly luncheon to about 150 area seniors for the next 20 years. This led to the later development of the Mount Si Senior Center.

The women have also used their talents in support of the House of Hope women’s shelter, several foreign ministries, and have distributed thousands of quilts through Lutheran World Relief. Since 1992, the congregation has made monthly contributions of money, food and volunteer workers to the Mount Si Helping Hands Food Bank as well as coordinating the annual school supply drive.

The church’s facilities have been rented by various outside groups including Alcoholics Anonymous, Mount Si Senior Center, Sno-Valley Co-Op Preschool, various Scout groups, and others. The congregation has also participated with the Valley Ministerial Association in community activities such as Easter sunrise services and baccalaureates.

Mount Si Lutheran currently celebrates a traditional worship at 8:30 a.m. on Sundays, with a contemporary praise service at 10 a.m. A fall schedule begins Sept. 6. the church also has weekly worship and Bible studies, an active youth program, a monthly senior fellowship, and other various opportunities for fellowship and service.

All current members, former members and friends of the church are invited to join us for the celebration of 60 years in ministry. There will be a program and meal on Saturday, Sept. 12. The celebration will continue on Sunday with worship services at 8:15 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. with a fellowship coffee hour in between.
