Carnation Farmers Market celebrates opening day May 2

On Tuesday, May 2, at 3 p.m., the Carnation Farmers Market will signal the start of the 2017 market season with the ringing of the opening bell.

Be sure to come early for the market’s 14th season, and to pick up your free sunflower seedlings, provided by Carnation Farms.

On opening day, Poindexter will perform the music for the annual Maypole dance at 4:30 p.m., and will continue to serenade shoppers on into the evening.

Other activities include floral crown making with Flower Charmers, and a cooking demonstration by Hopelink Harvest.

The Carnation Farmers Market is open Tuesdays from 3 to 7 p.m. starting May 2 and continuing until Oct, 17, with an additional Thanksgiving market on Nov. 21.

Expect to see a variety of touring musicians among the local talent during the market’s 25-week Music on the Grass series. Art activities with Joe Lee Davidson, cooking demonstrations, and Market Sprout’s children’s activities are regular features at the market this season.

The market is located in the heart of downtown Carnation on the corner of Bird Street and Stossel Avenue in The Tolt Commons Community Shelter, just one block east of Highway 203/Tolt Avenue.

The market accepts multiple currencies. Shop with credit/debit, cash, WIC and Senior FMNP checks, SNAP/EBT (previously called foodstamps), and CFM Market Bucks. CFM also offers Fresh Bucks, a dollar-for-dollar matching program, for SNAP shoppers.

A program of SnoValley Tilth (SVT), Carnation Farmers Market is “the farmers’ farmers market.” SnoValley Tilth is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that supports organic and sustainable food and fiber production throughout the Snoqualmie and Snohomish watersheds. In addition to the Carnation Farmers Market, SnoValley Tilth runs the Experience Farming Project, and a farmer and community membership program.

A complete schedule of music and events, and vendor and market information can be found on the Carnation Farmers Market website at www.carnationfarmersmarket.org.
