Letter: Talk to your state legislators about our nation’s policies

America is experiencing a time when many significant changes will soon take place. It is also a time when our nation is extremely divided.

We all have opinions and ideas on which direction the U.S. should take. When we feel strongly about national issues, we usually contact our federal representatives.

It is equally important to contact our state Senators and House members. Although they do not make federal policy, our national leaders generally begin their work at the state level. They will be setting and enforcing policies and laws created today.

Regardless of your political philosophy, please contact your state Senator and Representatives and ask them whether they support changes made by the new administration.

An issue that seems to be most controversial is the immigration ban placed on seven predominantly-Muslim countries. I am particularly interested in hearing from Representative Jay Rodne on this issue, due to a previous controversy concerning the Muslim faith.

It’s also important to hear the stance held by Representative Paul Graves and Senator Mark Mullet.

Whether or not you live in the 5th District, it’s crucial to learn your state representatives’ opinions on national issues before they represent you in “the other Washington.”
