Letter: Representative’s vote on ethics committee, later rescinded, still raises concerns

After hearing about the late night vote by the Republicans in the House to gut the Ethics Committee, I wanted to know how Dave Reichert, the representative for this 5th District voted. He was the only Republican in Washington state to vote to for this measure.

I am deeply offended that without any advance notice or discussion, and only few days prior to the hearings set to begin on Cabinet appointments, that Reichert would vote to gut a committee that was set up to be bipartisan.

Fortunately, due to immense outpouring of objections by watchdog groups, Democrats and Republicans, this action was reversed. But the fact that Dave Reichert voted in favor of gutting this committee is worrisome.

Do we really want a Representative who would vote to abolish a committee set up by Democrats and Republicans to be a nonpartisan judge of ethics? It is a question I and many others in the Snoqualmie Valley Indivisible group will keep in mind as we closely Reichert’s voting record on upcoming important issues.
