Letter: Failure to demand Trump’s tax returns is failure in duty to country

To Congressman Reichert, my name is Jacqueline Bosworth, and I am one of your constituents in Issaquah. I look to you, my representative in government and a member of the Committee of Ways and Means, to keep citizens honest and fair in their tax reporting. I also look to you to keep government employees honest and fair in their tax reporting.

Imagine my shock and total disappointment to hear you voted down a bill to request Donald Trump’s tax returns.

This is a man who is enriching himself through the office of the Presidency, who has obvious and dangerous ties to Russia, who claimed not paying taxes made him “smart,” who is deporting the family and parents and loved ones of the children you’re hoping to protect with your cosponsored BRIDGE Act, deporting people who probably pay more taxes than he ever has, and you do not demand his tax returns? You do not demand them, over and over again?

How foolish we all were, to vote people into government whose only goal was to break the government.

I need you to do better, and be better, and actually live up to the ideals you purport to have as a member of the Committee of Ways and Means. Do not allow yourself to go down with the burning ship, Congressman. You can be a voice for reason, for personal responsibility, and for duty to your country.

Jacqueline Bosworth
