Letter: A real environmentalist wouldn’t vote as Reichert did

Dave Reichert, representing us in Washington’s 8th Congressional District, touts himself as a strong environmentalist and a man of reason. Yet he voted against using the best available science and broader public engagement in the management of our federal lands by voting for HJ Res 44, “Disapproving the rule submitted by the Department of the Interior relating to Bureau of Land Management regulations.”

This collaborative effort reflected two years of process, over 3,000 comments, and an approach to governing that sets an example going forward. Yet this important effort over many years to better protect and manage our public lands was voted down and Congressman Reichert voted against it. Environmentalist or corporatist? You decide.

In this time of “alternative facts,” when lying is a governing strategy, we must pay attention to actions, as they speak louder than words.

A real environmentalist would not have voted for HJ Res 44. We are watching. We are Indivisible.
