In defense of the wealthy | Letter

What doesn’t get mentioned about tax breaks for the wealthy is the push back – the wealthy opposing a tax break. Warren Buffett speaks for many of his wealthy peers when he publicly stated “we need healthcare not tax breaks.”

Lost in the noise is the significant number of truly wealthy people giving their fortunes away to improve lives of untold millions, both here and abroad. For the most part, they are silent but very grateful, humble warriors using their wealth to solve a plethora of people problems.

There is hardly a community or individual in this country that has not been touched in some positive and beneficial way by the generosity of the wealthy. They are the ones who step up to the plate when safety nets are needed for what government, religious organizations and others can’t or won’t do.

I’d urge you to embrace the wealthy standing up against the tax breaks – the silent warriors making this a better world. They are not obsessed with the greed of me, mine and more. They are committed to and live by “to whom much is given, much is expected.”
