The sounds of Rob Ickes and Jim Hurst: Acoustic show, workshop coming to North Bend Grange
Award-winning acoustic musicians Rob Ickes and Jim Hurst headline a concert and workshop at the Sallal Grange in North Bend, 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7.
They will be performing a wide variety of music including jazz, bluegrass, acoustic country and their own original music. Ickes and Hurst are also doing a special workshop for musicians of all levels beforehand.
Ickes, a Grammy recipient is a founding member of the award winning bluegrass group, Blue Highway, and eclectic jazz group, Three Ring Circle. He is the recipient of this year’s International Bluegrass Music Association’s Dobro Player of the Year, an award that he’s won 15 times, making him the most awarded instrumentalist in the history of IBMA.
Hurst is a multi-instrumentalist and internationally recognized guitar master who astounds people with his unusual picking style and superb musicianship. He embarked on a solo career a few years ago, touring internationally to rave reviews in response to his brilliant playing and entertaining performances. He is the recipient of IBMA’s Guitar Player of the Year and has also received numerous nominations for his skill in this area. Hurst has performed and/or recorded with Trisha Yearwood, Sara Evans, David Grisman, Rob Ickes, Claire Lynch, Missy Raines, Holly Dunn, and many other artists.
The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7 at the grange, 12912 432nd Ave. S.E.

Ickes and Hurst are also doing a special workshop for musicians of all levels beforehand, 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7. The first part of the workshop will have one track for the resophonic guitar (guitar) with Ickes and one for guitar with Hurst. Participants will convene for the second part of the workshop for a private mini-concert by Ickes and Hurst where techniques will be demonstrated and the performance will be tailored to questions and requests from the workshop participants.
