Contra dance returns Friday to North Bend's Sallal Grange
January 14, 2013 · 11:26 AM
Sallal Grange hosts its next Contra Dance, 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18.
The grange and community hall is located at 432nd Ave. S.E., North Bend, and will be decorated in its Valentine's Day finest.
This week's band is Busted Cup, and Amy Carroll serves as the caller.
Contra Dancing is fun and appropriate for all genders and ages, and is meant to include the extended family. Contra dancing is like square dancing but more accessible. Sometimes the dancers get the steps right, sometimes they get them wrong, but they are always laughing. The camaraderie among the dancers is surprising, much like strangers who have been anonymously thrown together in this confusing situation, helping each other and laughing with glee that they are succeeding, or failing, but surviving.
