The Evergreen State Barbecue Championship comes to Duvall on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 21 and 22, at the Safeway parking lot.

Washington Gov. Christine Gregoire proclaimed the entire weekend as "Evergreen State BBQ Championship Days."

The championship brings teams and judges from the entire Pacific Northwest. Four categories of competition include ribs, chicken, brisket and pork. Visitors can enjoy samples of the region's best barbecue, served up by competitors vying for $5,000 in prize money.

The winner will be crowned a Washington state champion and go on to compete in the Jack Daniels Invitational and other national events.

Proceeds benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association and the Rotary Club of Duvall's Community Projects.
