Snoqualmie 3 on 3 basketball tournament booms

This could be the year that the Snoqualmie Ridge 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament hits the big time.

This could be the year that the Snoqualmie Ridge 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament hits the big time.

With 84 teams signed up as of last week, tournament founder Jeff Orswell said the event has double the participation compared to last year.

A one-day event this year, the tournament starts at 8 a.m. Saturday, July 18. Thirty courts will be set up on Ridge Street between Center Boulevard and Fairway Avenue. Games last all day.

An all-ages slam dunk contest is planned from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday,

Teams have until midnight Wednesday, July 15 to sign up online at www.snoqualmie3on3.com. Cost is $90 per team. Teams can field four or three players per team, but those with four players are likely to go farther.

There is no late registration.

Tourney participants are asked to park at the Nuprecon building in the Snoqualmie business park. Residents and shoppers will be able to access Ridge business parking lots, and residents who live fronting the courts can access their homes via the alley between Ridge Street and Kinsey.

A children’s area with bouncy houses and other activities is part of the tournament. All players take home an event basketball.

With an estimated 600 to 800 participants, the event could draw thousands of players and spectators to the Ridge.

Growth in the number of teams makes the Snoqualmie Ridge event the second biggest basketball tournament in Washington. The first is the huge Hoopfest tournament held in Spokane, Wash.

“We’re closing ground on them daily,” Orswell said.
