SnoValley Writes is holding a writing challenge and contest this month, challenging local writers to create a story or poem for a cash prize. Works must be based on a prompt: ‘A reporter arrives in town and asks a bunch of odd questions about your neighbor.’

Any form is permitted, but no more than 1,500 words will be accepted. Content and language must be family friendly, and all characters must be fictional. Writers can enter as many pieces as they like. Deadline is March 9.

The winning piece must be read aloud at Boxley's Word Jazz event, 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 16.

To learn more, visit www.snovalleywrites.org. Mail entries to SnoValley Writes! c/o Carriage Insurance, P.O. Box 392, North Bend, WA 98045.
