Firefighters to fill the boot

Get ready to fill that boot! North Bend firefighters will be using their boots throughout the summer to help area adults and children with neuromuscular diseases, during the 53rd annual “Fill the Boot” drive.

Firefighters will be at the corner of Bendigo and Mount Si Boulevards, 2 to 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, ready for motorists to donate cash and checks to help support the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).

The money raised by the firefighters will support research, clinic services, equipment and a week long summer camp for kids provided free of charge by the MDA. Fill the Boot events throughout King County will contribute more than $150,000 to these services this year alone.

The International Association of Firefighters’ locals from Snoqualmie, Eastside Fire and Rescue, along with Seattle, Mercer Island, North Highline, Burien, Shoreline, Tukwila, Skyway, Maple Valley, SeaTac, Bellevue, and Kirkland, are putting on these fund-raising events.

Firefighters have become the MDA’s main non-corporate contributor.
