Students who were in grades 10, 11 and 12 during the 2012-2013 school year can register now through June 30 to take the state reading and writing High School Proficiency Exams (HSPE) in August. The August exam is open to students who did not meet standard, did not participate in testing, or who transferred from out-of-state. Special education students who take the regular or basic HSPE may also participate in August testing.
Special education students who take the WAAS-DAPE or WAAS portfolio may not participate in August testing, but will have testing opportunities in November.
The August HSPE is not the end of course examination. Students can choose to take the test in one or both content areas, reading and writing.
The writing assessment is 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 13 and 14. Students must complete both days to receive a score. The reading assessment is 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15. All August HSPE testing will include a lunch break from noon to 1 p.m., and will take place at Riverview Learning Center, 32302 NE 50th Street, Carnation.
Register online through the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) website, www.k12.wa.us/testregistration. If students can't access the online system, they can register by phone, by calling (866) 400-9275, between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Students will need their State Student Identification (SSID) number which can be found on the score report students will receive in June or by contacting the school.
Registered students will receive preliminary instructions from OSPI and a reminder with detailed instructions from the Riverview School District during the first week of August.
Students who miss the pre-registration window may contact the district. To register, contact Robin Nordquist at email@example.com or 425-844-4522.
